It is with great sadness that the family of Geraldine (Geri) M. Maurer of Lebanon, PA announce her passing on June 19, 2022 at the age of 82 years.

Born at home, in Bunker Hill, on April 04, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Helen (Tatar) Selman. Geri attended Lebanon Catholic High School, and later received her Licensed Practical Nurse accreditation. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick A. Maurer and a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Geri left an impression on everyone she met through her work as a dental hygienist, pediatric assistant and nurse throughout her career. She retired as a nurse from the Penn State Hershey Medical Center's Cancer Institute.

Geri and Fred were married in 1974 and enjoyed 48 wonderful years together. They loved to host, and thousands of memories were made in their backyard. She was amazingly organized and could effortlessly prepare a 30-person dinner or a simple Sunday night meal for 10 (but that could also feed 30). With their friends, she and Fred enjoyed many world travels which Geri meticulously documented throughout the years. Every photo has a handwritten description of even the smallest details - a treasure kept in her many, many albums.

Geri was a real dynamo whose energy constantly amazed everyone around her. She always made love of family, church, and community a priority in her life, selflessly donating her time and skills in the service of others. You could always find her at the church bazaars, festivals, community meals, or decorating the church. She also absolutely loved to yard sale and would often collect treasures for people which she usually distributed to unsuspecting guests at picnics.

Among her many talents, Geri was an accomplished seamstress and baker. For decades, Geri devoted most of her evenings between Thanksgiving and Christmas to baking cookies and strudels and creating elaborate gift trays that would make even the most dedicated homemaker jealous. Geri also hemmed and pinned and altered for anyone who asked and created memorable hand-sewn Halloween costumes that are still in circulation today!

In her professional life, Geri spent much of her career working with terminally ill cancer patients. Her loving personality and smile brought compassion and comfort to so many patients and their families during their time of need. In fact, she had a bottomless heart and brought joy to all who knew her. She was the first person to call if you or your kids were sick or hurt, or if you needed a random item: various sizes of ice skates, wrapping paper, unique baking supplies, etc. You could not say no to Geri – whether it was the offer of one more cookie, or allowing her to handwash every dish before she put it in the dishwasher. Geri's nurturing spirit and boundless energy often led you to stand aside and just watch her with gratitude and amazement. ​

In the end, it was a great honor for Fred, her family, and her friends to care for her in the ways she spent a lifetime caring for others.

She will be dearly missed by her three children: Michael Herzog (wife Tillie), Missy Kunder (husband John), Nicole Gray (husband Scott). Six grandchildren; Amanda, Jennifer, Ashley, Justin, Freddie, Piper, 8 great grandchildren, 1 brother; Steve (Bob) Selman, 2 sisters; Nancy Drye and Sue Gable, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a great granddaughter (Ellis) and husband Fred.

Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church (120 E Lehman St, Lebanon, PA 17046). A visitation will be held prior to mass from 10-11. Interment at St. Gertrude's Cemetery. A zoom link will be on Geri's webpage (below) at Tuesday morning at 10:50 for those not able to attend the Mass.

A celebration of life will be held for both Geri and Fred following the service at St. Gertrude's Catering (formerly All About You) at 1:00 pm. The family invites you to please join them in remembering such a remarkable couple.
