Anne Shultz Heverling, 97, Spang Crest Manor, Lebanon, died on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Born in Colver, PA, on Christmas Day 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Shultz and Susan Paranic of Lebanon. She was married to the late William Murray Uhrich and later to George Heverling (also deceased).

She had an accomplished career in the medical field spanning 39 years, working first at Fort Indiantown Gap, then The Bethlehem Steel Corporation and lastly The Hershey Foods Corporation from which she retired. She was an honors graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1941. Her yearbook entry indicates that her nickname was "Dimples." It says: "A dimpled typist - likes hypnotic spells, For then the peanuts, this jitterbug sells." She served on the high school newspaper "The Newsette," was a member of the Girls Athletic Club, and played in the Intramural Basketball and Intramural Volleyball clubs.

She was a dynamic and resourceful community leader. She served as president and secretary of the then new Lebanon Area Medical Assistants organization, member of the advisory council and secretary of the Retired Senior Volunteers Program, and the board of directors of the American Heart Association. She was named Woman of the Year by the Association of Business Women's Association, Hemlock Chapter, in 1991. She served ABWA as vice president, secretary, treasurer and chaired many committees.

Catholic theology and her church, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, were central to her beliefs. She served as a leader of the Council of Catholic Women for many years and as a volunteer for many projects that helped the poor and less fortunate, a lifelong passion as she and her mother, brother and sisters lived through the Great Depression on meager resources as did most Americans. Her mother, Susan, stressed academic achievement, recognizing the importance of a solid education, so Anne and her siblings graduated from high school and entered the workforce or the armed services. Helping others was a tenant of her faith, one she practiced daily.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Schultz and sister Susan Carpenter. Her sister, Julia Heagy, survives her.
Family was paramount to Anne. She and her husband stressed family values, honoring elders, faith, honesty, respect and belief in democracy. Many conversations at the supper table delved into national events. In later years she worked to keep her children, their cousins and families stay in contact.

Anne is lovingly remembered by her children Suzanne Hermansky (Thomas) and Margaret Taylor (Timothy). She is the beloved Gam to her grandchildren: Kathy, Allina (Young), Walter (Jessica), Cameron (Alyssa), and Elliot. And GG Gam to her great-grandchildren: Camille, Vivienne, Genevieve, Coen, and Kaelan. Special family members include Kathy Bartal (Jeff) and Lynn Fackler (Jeff), and fondly remembered by many close friends.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on July 22, 2020 at the Assumption BVM Church, Lebanon. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated specifically for the Fund for the Poor living in Lebanon County and sent to the Assumption BVM Church, 2 North 8th Street, Lebanon, PA 17042 or the Sisters of St. Joseph, 9701 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118.
