Shirley Ann
Hawryluk
Feb 2, 1936 — Nov 18, 2024
Shirley Ann (Pennel) Hawryluk passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, with her loving family at her side. She was 88 years old.
Shirley was born in Palmyra, Pa on February 2,1936 and resided in the Lebanon area most of her life. She graduated from Lebanon High School - class of 1954, where she met her high school sweetheart, Andrew Hawryluk, whom she married in January 1955.
Shirley's greatest joy in life was her family. She dedicated her life to their five children in addition to eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. As a young mother she was very involved in her children's school, church and other activities. During those years she volunteered countless hours to support Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish in numerous ways, ranging from cleaning the church, to preparing school lunches and baking for church bake sales. After her children were of school age, she went to work at the H. B. Reese Candy Co. where she was employed for 27 years.
Music was a constant in Shirley's life. She played flute, piccolo and keyboards in her high school band and was a member of the American Music Theater. Shirley was also an excellent cook and she prepared outstanding Pennsylvania Dutch and Ukrainian dishes for her family. Last, but not least, Shirley was a trusted friend to her close-knit circle of former classmates and co-workers. Those who knew Shirley will always remember her for her love of music, traveling with family and friends, bingo and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Shirley was preceded in death by Andrew Hawryluk. She is survived by son Patrick and wife Jennifer, son John and wife Lauren, daughter Peggy Boyer and husband Tim, son Michael and wife Lori, and son Nicholas and significant other Claudia Wray.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on January 4, 2025 at St. Benedict's Church, 1300 Lehman St, Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to Mass from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Thompson Funeral Home, Lebanon is entrusted with the arrangements.
