Obituary

Rose Marie (Shay) Quarry, 95, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on February 17, 2024.  She was the wife of the late Cyril R. Quarry. Born in Lebanon, PA, she was the loving daughter of William J. and Margie A. (Brown) Shay. She is survived by her four children: Deborah Quarry Kasten, wife of Bruce; Stephen, husband of Laureen (Olsen); Rebecca Quarry Smith, wife of Gregory, and Sara Quarry Houshower. Her five grandsons lovingly called her Nan: Robert Kasten (and Christine,) Stephen Quarry (and Aley Clayton,) Jack Kasten, Dean Houshower, and Trevor Quarry, along with her three precious great-grandsons: Conner Joe Quarry, Theodore O'Neil Kasten and Felix O'Neil Kasten. She is preceded in death by her sister Mary Louise (Shay) Allwein and is survived by her sister Frona (Shay) Foster. She also leaves behind many precious nieces, nephews and their families.

Rose Marie is a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School Class of 1946 and enjoyed a special connection with her classmates throughout her life. She worked at the Westenburger Ice-House and in the men's department at the Lebanon Bon Ton. She loved growing up in Lebanon County, her heritage and her roots. She enjoyed researching and building her generational story through letters, archives and old pictures and discovered many new relative friends along the way. She especially loved children and cared for many that remained close to her into their adulthood. Collecting seashells, creating scherenschnitte, reading about and discussing the Civil War, playing and listening to music, going on adventures, meeting new friends and spending time with friends and family were among her favorite things to do.

Rose Marie had a beautiful life knowing and loving people. Her greatest gift was her ability to connect with people, young and old alike. She was genuinely interested in everyone she met and had the unique ability to form relationships quickly, be it with family, friends or friends of friends. Those she met soon felt a special bond. Rose Marie looked out for other people both near and far, reaching out to check on older friends and relatives while reminiscing and sharing stories.  If you met her, you knew her, she was your friend.
