Roger Whitmire, 84, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 1, 2024.  He was born on February 21, 1939, to the late Howard and Marjorie (Jugle) Whitmire in Niagara Falls, NY.  He was the husband of Sue Ann (Seltzer) Whitmire with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage on November 19, 2023.

After graduating from Niagara Falls HS, Roger proudly served 6 years as a hospital corpsman in the US Navy. He began his civilian career as a Medical Technologist at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon, where he met his future wife, Sue Ann.  He also served as lab manager and phlebotomist at GSH for many years and was instrumental in establishing testing procedures and training personnel on laboratory analysis equipment.  He left GSH to work for private and local in-house physician laboratories. Roger retired from the job he loved after over 50 years.

As a young man, Roger was the Cubmaster for Troop 45 in Lebanon, continuing his dedication to scouting.  He also served on the Eagle Scout Review Board.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for over 50 years and bowled for the Men's Monday Night Bowling Team.  He also served as a soloist for weddings and choir performances. Music was a large part of his life. He began his music career as a trumpeter in high school and continued playing as a member of a local drum and bugle corp.

He enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors, especially with his family. Ocean City, NJ was a treasured annual family trip where he loved to walk and ride "the boards".  Disney World adventures were also a favorite, especially with his children and grandchildren.  A devoted Buffalo Bills fan, Roger could be found cheering them on and was always hopeful for a Super Bowl Ring.  Roger was also a dedicated fan of Penn State football and attended many games and tailgates with family and close friends.

Roger is survived by his wife and their two daughters; Amy Sue (Brad) Deihl of Willow Street, and Ann (Ryan) Arnold of Fogelsville; 5 grandchildren, Allyson and Ben Deihl and Roger, Bobby, and Gail Arnold; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carole Buchalski. His calm demeanor and gentle presence will be missed greatly.

Interment will take place privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
