Robert Bruce Matterness, 87 of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Hershey Medical Center after a brief illness. He passed peacefully while holding the hand of his partner, Richard Schaeffer. They were together 37 years.

Robert was born in Lebanon on July 11, 1936. He was the son of the late Chester and Phyllis (Fox) Matterness.

Robert, Bob, was an avid fan of country music and theatre organ music. Bob would travel to all parts of the country to listen to a new artist play old and new compositions of songs on different theatre organs.

In addition to his partner, Robert is survived by his sister Patricia Fertig; of Bonneau, South Carolina, and two nephews Ken Fertig of​ Bonneau, South Carolina and David Fertig of Dumfries, Virginia.

A graveside Memorial will be held at 11:00AM, June 8, 2024 at Grand View Memorial Park, 500 North Weaber St. Lebanon, PA 17046. Arrangements are being made through Thompson Funeral Home, Lebanon. A small luncheon will be held after the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lebanon County Humane Society, 150 North Ramona Road, Myerstown, PA 17067.
