Obituary

Robert C. Johnson (Bob) passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023 at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Pa.  Bob was born on June 15, 1937 to Alvar and Emma Johnson in Melrose, Massachusetts.  After graduating from Melrose High School, he went on to get a business degree from Northeastern University, in Boston, Massachusetts.  His early career was as a Sales Rep. for Schaeffer Pen Company.  He then took a position at C. R. Bard and worked for 31 years through a variety of sales leadership roles until retiring as VP & GM of Contract Sales Division.

He met his future wife Martha Johnson in 1958 and they married in 1960, having two children Gary and Karen.  Their courtship involved many dates spent at Fenway Park, where he worked as an usher while studying at Northeastern.

When younger, Bob was an accomplished baseball player and a pitcher who came within one game of playing in the Little League World Series.  Later on he enjoyed playing adult softball, tennis, basketball, and especially golf at his home course of Oak Hill in Milford, NJ.  His great sense of humor, big personality, and ability to make something happen when the team needs it will be sorely missed.

He was also an avid fan of Boston sports teams (Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics) and was rarely seen on a golf course without wearing his Red Sox hat.  After retiring, Bob enjoyed spending time in Sarasota, Florida, playing golf, reading, and spending time with his family.  He also loved their annual trip to Cape Cod, where they could visit friends and he could enjoy his beloved fried clams.

In 2020, Bob and Martha moved to Cornwall Manor in Lebanon, Pennsylvania where he spent his final years.  He so enjoyed the community there, along with the special friends they made, and exploring all the new area had to offer them.

Bob is pre-deceased by his parents and brothers Norman and Alfred.  He is survived by Martha Johnson (his wife of 63 years), brother David Johnson (wife Diane), son Gary Johnson (wife Beth), and daughter Karen Sulley (husband Andy); grandchildren Mitchell, Matthew, Daniel, and Nicholas; and Sisters-in-Law Marjorie (wife of Norman) and Sandra (wife of Alfred).

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
