Obituary

Richard L. Henry, 95, of Annville, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at home.

Richard graduated from Lebanon High School class of 1946, he then served with the U.S. Occupational Forces of Okinawa in 1946 and 1947. A graduate of Boronian Technical School in Philadelphia, he was employed by Thomas Clark Jeweler in Lebanon from 1954-1993.

Widely known as a writer, he wrote feature articles in all the leading outdoor magazines, including Field & Stream, where he was a regular contributor for 17 years. He won the Orvis Writing Award for the best fly fishing article published in 1981 and 1986; one of his stories is included in a book titled The Orvis Anthology.

He belonged to The Outdoor Writers Association from 1978-1986 and supported numerous environmental and scientific organizations; he was a active member of Trout Unlimited and the Susquehannock Fly Fishers. The ruffed grouse and fly fishing were his special interests in the outdoors.

He was a contributing member in the National Geographic Society and belonged to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

Richard was the son of Raymond and Mabel (Royer) Henry. His wife, Mary (Eisenhauer) Henry and step daughter, Michele Brightbill preceded him in death. He was the last of his immediate family.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family at Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory can be made to the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N Ramona Rd, Myerstown, PA 17067.
