Obituary

Richard P. Brown, Sr., 91, of Lebanon, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023. He was a loving husband of 70 years to Genevieve E. (Bahsteter) Brown, to whom he married on April 11, 1953.

Born in Lebanon, PA on November 25, 1931, Richard was a son of the late Paul E. Brown and Caroline (Swope) Brown. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 11 years where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. During his service he was stationed in South Carolina, Virginia, Alaska, New York, and Maine. From 1950-1954 he was with the 35th Troop Carrier Squadron, from 1955-1957 he was with the 5039th A&E Maintron, and from 1957-1961 he was with the 27th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.

After serving in the Air Force, he worked at Olmstead Air Force Base and later at Indiantown Gap. In addition, he worked part-time at Sears Department Store in the catalog department, Our Lady of the Valley School, Brown-Pautz cleaning service and Gallagher-Brown Lawn Care. He loved his time while stationed in Alaska, where he enjoyed fishing, picnicking on the glacier, and bowling. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball and enjoyed starting up conversation with anyone.

In addition to his wife, Richard was a loving, hard-working father to seven children: Karen Brown-Pautz, wife of Marty, Cindy (Brown) Schaeffer, wife of Gary, Rick Brown, husband of Sheila (Dove), Ruth (Brown) Fancovic, wife of Phil, Tina (Brown) Kline, wife of Jeff, Tony (Gallagher-Brown), husband of Julia, and Deb (Brown) Good; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Brown and sister, Ellen Capelli.

In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Brown and grandson, Jason Brown.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at St. Mary's Church, 2 N 8th St, Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A viewing will be held prior to Mass from 10:30-11:30 at the church.
