Louis Scipioni, age 101, of Myerstown, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 18, 2023. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Schnoke) Scipioni.
Born in Myerstown, PA on August 26, 1921, Louis was a son of the late Luzio and Pasquarose (DeLuca) Scipioni.
Louis was an active member of Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Myerstown, where he was past president of the church council and co-chairman of the start of summer festivals. He attended a one room school house in Prescott for 5 years and then graduated from Myerstown High School. After graduation he worked small jobs prior to being drafted in 1942 and served 3 1/2 years in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He worked as an auto salesman prior to opening a bar & restaurant in Myerstown, where he introduced pizza & Italian sandwiches to the Myerstown area. Louis then went on to open Scipioni's Hide Away for several years before going back into the auto business. In 1966 he opened his first used car lot in the Myerstown area and then in 1972 expanded to East Lebanon Auto, where he operated until retiring and turning the business over to his son, Robert.
Louis was a life member of the VFW, Richland Legion #880, Lebanon Elks #631, Catholic War Veterans, and a hunting lodge in Tioga County. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also co-chairman of the Pancake Jamboree for 25 years. He enjoyed playing poker, going to the casino, hunting and was an avid sports fan. More than anything he was a loving father and grandfather.
Louis is survived by four children: Louis Scipioni Jr., Rose Marie Lis, Robert Scipioni, and Bonita Deurer; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria Ebling. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Marie; two sisters, Eva Plebani and Minnie Anspach, and two brothers, Luke and Sylvio Scipioni.
