Joseph J. Smith, III of Lebanon, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. Joe was born on February 10, 1959, the son of the late Betty A. Tobias Lutz and the late Joseph J. Smith, Jr.

Mr. Smith was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He was a 34-year member of Ironworkers Local 404 in Harrisburg, having retired in 2019 after a disabling brain injury. Joe loved to take car rides and point out the many buildings that he helped to build throughout South Central PA.

He is survived by siblings Joanne (Dennis) Kreider of Cheswick, PA, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Schnoke of Lebanon, and Steven (Megan) Toler of Mt Gretna; two nephews, Brett Kreider of Cheswick, and Beau Toler of Mt. Gretna; a niece, Campbell Toler of Mt. Gretna; an aunt, Shirley Lines of Bird In Hand, PA; and seven cousins. Joe is also survived, by his canine buddy, Toby. Joe was preceded in death on April 1, 2021 by his companion of 18 years, Vicki Fay Lego.

Friends and family will be received at 10am on Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 125 South Spruce Street, Annville, PA followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Joseph's memory be made to the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 North Ramona Road, Myerstown, PA 17067.
