Obituary

John R. Hassenbein, 60, passed away Friday June 16, 2023 at home. He was the husband of Susan E. (Bird) Hassenbein of Manheim.

Born on September 30, 1962 at the US Military Hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany while his father was serving in the US Air Force, John was the son of Don and Elke (Berlin) Hassenbein, of Palmyra.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cornwall and was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed trips with his wife. John was a former employee of The Hotel Hershey and had served in the United States Army.

In recent years, John suffered from multiple medical conditions but was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors thanks to his handyman skills that he acquired over the years. When his parents moved to Palmyra, John designed and completed their entire basement with a little help from two friends. John could fix anything and was always willing to help others.

John is survived by his wife, parents, Brother James Hassenbein (wife Diana), Columbus, Ohio and Lisa (Hassenbein) Beiler (husband Samuel), Mechanicsburg. He had thirteen nieces and nephews - Max and Elizabeth Hassenbein living in Ohio; Alex Hassenbein living in California; Katrina Hershey living in Mechanicsburg, Lance Hershey living in Palmyra, Melodie, Jessica, Meghan, Mikayla, and Caitlin Bird, all living in Rochester, New York and Joseph and Ethan Bird, living in Derwood, Maryland, Tori Bird, living in Colorado; three great nephews - Brody, WIlliam, and Colin Pfluke, living in Rochester, New York.
