Obituary

Jeanette A. Schwartz, 84, of Lebanon, passed away Tuesday July 19, 2022.  She was the wife of the late Ralph G. Schwartz. Born in Lebanon, PA on May 23, 1938, she was one of the thirteen children of the late Reuben and Helen (Folmer) Arnold and was a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lebanon.

Through extraordinary determination, Jeanette raised her two daughters, Annette & Paula, almost entirely by herself. She was a firm but loving mother who instilled values of hard work into her children and grandchildren. Jeanette married her husband, Ralph, in 1984. They spent many happy years together that were filled with travel, many family get-togethers, and much love and laughter.

An avid lover of numbers, Jeanette spent her early career as an accountant for several companies, including Leedpac, where she was employed until the company's sale in the early 1980s. Following her career in the corporate world, she became a waitress at several diners and restaurants in the Lebanon area where many of her colleagues and regular customers were routinely impressed by her ability to total checks tableside without needing a calculator. Her most recent employers were the Hassan family of the Cedar Grill in Lebanon, Pa. where she waitressed 5 days a week until the covid pandemic created an opportunity for her to retire for a second time in 2020. When she took the rare occasion to spend some time for herself, her love of numbers naturally flowed into her leisure activities: playing card and dice games with her family (she usually won), traveling to her favorite casino in Atlantic City (she was very lucky), and hosting family parties and events.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Arnold, Theresa Hanner, Barb Hetrick and her brothers George and Raymond Arnold.

Surviving are daughters Annette Arnold, fiancé of Doug Mann, and Paula Culbert, wife of the late Dee Culbert; grandchildren, Abby (Rick) Salotto, Aimee Culbert (Tyler Mills), Zachary (Rachel) Arnold, and Nicholas Culbert; honorary grandson Tyler Weaber; sisters Patty Fleagle, Betty Arnold, Joan Arnold, Sr. Elizabeth Christi, Susie Mettley, Kathleen Snitzer, and Josie Arnold; step-children Marti Certilman, David (Maryellen) Schwartz, Dan (Judy) Schwartz; step-grandchildren Todd (Rebecca) Adelman, Lauren Adelman (Sergio Perez), Nathan (Mindy) Schwartz, Allison (Brett) Pearlman, Dara (Jordan) Grossman; step-great-grandchildren Abilene, Kalkidan, Atticus, Xochi, Ryan, Russel, Seth, Ben, and Josh.

Memorial services will be held July 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. 126 S. 9th St. Lebanon, 17042.  A visitation will be held from 10-11 am prior to the service.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Holy Cross Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested making a donation to the USO or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, two causes that were special to Jeanette.
