James Fabiochi, 97, peacefully passed away at The Lebanon Valley Home in Annville on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
Born May 22, 1924 in Myerstown he was the son of the late Francesco and Maria D'Amari Fabiochi. Mr. Fabiochi retired as an employee of Quaker Alloy Casting Company with over 30 years of service. He was a life member of Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, Myerstown, volunteering in various capacities.
Surviving are nieces Monica Ferretti, Donna Wise, wife of Clair Wise and Stephanie Sholly, wife of Ernest Sholly, Jr. and their families.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Warren and Louis Fabiochi, two infant brothers and five sisters, Annunziata Iervella, Julia and Lena Fabiochi, Amelia Ferretti, Yolanda Mongelluzzi and Niece, Kathleen Mongelluzzi VanderHeijden.
PFC James Fabiochi enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps February 16, 1943 and was trained as a Marine Raider. James was Honorably Discharged October 20, 1945. Mr. Fabiochi served as a member of Company K, 3rd Marine Raider Battalion during the 1943 Battle of Bougainville in the Solomon Islands, and the Battle of Guam in the Mariana Islands with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade. He was wounded in Action on July 27, 1944 and evacuated to the naval vessel USS Feland where he was transferred to the U.S. Navy Hospital at Pearl Harbor on August 9, 1944. He received the Purple Heart Award on October 3, 1944 for wounds received as a result of enemy action in the Asiatic-Pacific arena. He is a life member of the Marine Raider Association, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 23.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 McKinley Avenue, Myerstown, PA 17067 preceded with family visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, donations in James' memory may be made to Mary Gate of Heaven Church or your favorite charity.
