Henry R. Fields, 80, of Cornwall, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at home. He was surrounded by his immediate family and grandchildren. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Lazorcik) Fields.

Born in Lebanon, PA on April 7, 1942, Henry was a son of the late Ray A. and Mary R. (Arnold) Fields. In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his brother, Ray D. Fields.

As a young man, Henry attended boarding school at Saint Charles in Catonsville, Maryland for four years of high school and two more years for an Associate's Degree in Philosophy. He would proceed to attend Saint Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland for college where he finished his undergraduate studies in Philosophy. He attended Millersville University and got his Master's in Education and Counseling. In 1966 his career found a home at Swatara Junior High School in the Harrisburg area where he taught Latin. In 1967 Henry relocated to Lebanon High School and again taught Latin. After a year there, he once again relocated to the Cornwall-Lebanon School District in 1968 where he taught at the South Lebanon building as the new Cedar Crest Middle School building was being constructed. He eventually moved into the CCMS building where he continued working as a guidance counselor. When he wasn't working with kids at school, he loved woodworking. He did most of the interior finish work on his house after the initial construction was completed in 1976. He also loved to hunt and fish. He loved small game and deer hunting with his school and close family friends. He loved to cook to and taught himself everything about it by watching TV or reading books. He never went to school to formally learn the art of cooking, but his family can tell you, his meals were out of this world! He also taught himself to play the trombone and played many concerts with the students of CCMS. He also loved to golf. Henry's legendary tales of golfing with his son in-law Jim, and friends Larry Wagner and the late Glenn Ebling, were epic! Henry lived a good life and would go out of his way to help students, family, and friends whenever they needed it.

In addition to his wife, Henry is survived by two children, Renee L. Oplinger, wife of James and Denise M. Swingholm, wife of Corey; three grandchildren, Connor J. Oplinger, Carson F. Oplinger, and Corey L. Swingholm, Jr. He is also survived by seven of his eight siblings, and his beloved dog, Daisy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, January 6, 2023 at St. Cecilia's Church, 120 E. Lehman St, Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to Mass form 10am-11am at the church. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
