Gregory J. Pence, 95, of Lebanon, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, January 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lebanon on May 15, 1929, he was a son of the late Raphael A.J. and Kathryn (Green) Pence. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Shirley P. (Beard) Pence.

Following graduation from Lebanon High School in 1946, he enlisted in the US Army, serving in Occupied Japan. He again served his country during the Korean War returning to his prior station in Japan.

He was employed for over 35 years as a nursing assistant at the Lebanon VA Hospital. He also worked part-time for the Lebanon Visiting Nurses Association. Following retirement from the VA he worked part-time in maintenance at the former Leader Nursing Home.

Greg loved spending time with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to watch westerns and football, and was a fan of Penn State football, the Steelers, and the Phillies. He also was an expert at solving crossword puzzles. One of his other passions was reading the Bible each night. He was a member of the Lebanon Bible Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Gregory D. Pence of Pocono Manor; daughter Kathryn Pence of Tampa, FL; daughter Carol Wengert of Ono; grandson Matthew Wengert and his fiancée Jennifer George; grandson Raphael Pence and his fiancée Natalie Oddy; grandson Jack Pence; and great-grandsons Jayden, Ryan, and Beau Pence. He was predeceased by his brothers, Raphael (Tink), Richard (Dick), Eugene (Bud), Henry (Hen), and Robert (Bob) Pence; and sisters Gloria (Sis) Minnich, Madeline (Mat) Allen, and Patricia (Pat) Pence. He was known as Smoke or Smokey by his childhood friends and was one of the last surviving members of the "South Tenth Street Tigers", a band of neighborhood friends who grew up during the Great Depression.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Lebanon Bible Fellowship Church, 1635 Mill Road, Lebanon, PA 17042. Interment with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM and Thursday morning from 10:30-11:30 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg's name can be made to the Lebanon Bible Fellowship Church at the above address.
