Obituary

Edwin Blair McGwire, Sr. (Ted)

Ted McGwire, a resident of Cornwall Manor, Cornwall. PA since 2008, passed away on May 28, 2023.  Born in Plainfield, NJ on August 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Margaret Blair and Edwin Dudley McGwire.

Ted graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1949 and later received a bachelor's degree from Juniata College in Huntington, PA in 1953.  He then served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

Ted met his wife Doris while in high school and they were married in 1954.  He cherished his time with her and the two have been happily married for 68 years.

The McGwires lived in Pennington, NJ for 50 years where they were members of the United Methodist Church where Ted served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, a Sunday school teacher, and Co-President of the Methometers.  He was also an active member of the Jaycees and served as a board member of Boy Scout Troop 41.

Family was very important to Ted McGwire who was a devoted son, husband, and father.  He has always been very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife Doris, his son E Blair McGwire and wife Joan of Elizabethtown, PA, and two daughters:  Linda McGwire and husband Robert Clowes of Lexington, VA, and Alyson Kreider and husband Gregory of Lancaster, PA.  Ted is also survived by four grandchildren and     three  great grandchildren.

Ted's career with New Jersey Bell Telephone spanned 36 years which included some periods when he was on loan to AT&T and later employed by Verizon Communications, from which he retired in 1989.

The McGwires enjoyed living at Cornwall Manor during their later years where Ted was an active member of the Cornwall Manor Society and a volunteer at Zerr Chapel.

Throughout their lives Ted and Doris have done everything together, and they have chosen to continue this by having one memorial service as a couple once Doris joins Ted in eternity.  For now, there will not be a service; however, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Ted are encouraged to give to the Cornwall Manor Benevolent Care Fund, P.O. Box 125 Cornwall, PA 17016.

Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.  Please share your memories with the family at our online guest book at thompsonfuneralhomelebanon.com
