Obituary

Doris Jean Switzer, 99, of Myerstown and formerly of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the wife of the late Grant H. Switzer.

Born in Lebanon, PA on January 12, 1924, Doris was a daughter of the late Paul and Cora (Donmoyer) Youtz. She was a member of Mary Gate of Heaven Church. She was a stay at home mother but enjoyed doing volunteer work. Doris was active in the Girl Scouts, Veteran's hospital, and twin club, for which she was one of the few that could boast of having 2 sets of twins. She took great pride in collecting and displaying angels along with unique greeting cards which she enjoyed giving and receiving. For relaxation she loved game shows, movies on the Hallmark channel, card games and the all important Lottery. What really brought the most joy to her were visits from her family. Her mind remained sharp till the end, never missing a birthday or forgetting a name of any of the children, grandchildren or great grandchildren.

Doris is survived by seven children: Dennis L., husband of Joan Switzer of Virginia; Donna M., wife of Wilson Coleman of Myerstown; Karen S. Switzer of Lebanon; Sharon A., wife of Robert Siegrist of Lebanon; Sheila J. wife of Dr. William R. Davidson of Jonestown; Janelle E., wife of Ronnie Rhoads of Mechanicsburg and Jeanne E. wife of Steven Laicha of Lebanon; 24 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Albert and Patricia Burch; a brother, Thomas Youtz; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy L. who was the wife of Randy Himmelberger and several brothers and sisters. She was also the last surviving person of the 1941 Lebanon Catholic High School class.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 W. McKinley Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067. A visitation will be held prior to Mass from 9-10am at the church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.
